Let’s get together!  On September 23rd from 5-7pm join us for a Back-to-School Family Picnic on the field. Bring a blanket and a picnic dinner for your family. Visit with other families and meet some new people from your child’s new classroom.  Simple, Friday night family fun!

Do you like to garden? Do you have a green thumb? Did you know we have a Community Garden at the back of our school to the west?  We would like to have more of a presence in the garden this year. Both third grade and first grade have specific science standards related to work in the garden and they are gearing up to begin their work there. Ventana Vista has several plots on the south side of the garden and the folks at Community Gardens are willing to help us get them back up and growing! There will be a garden meeting on Saturday, September 24th at 8am. We need workers, especially those with large muscles who can do some heavy duty preparation work. Tony Navarro, community gardener, has some great ideas to make the most of our garden with vermiculture and composting.  But, we can’t do it without your help!  Contact Tony by email if you would like to join in the work and if you have any questions.
Our first Student Council meeting was a success!  We had over 40 3-5th graders join us for a lunch time meeting. Students were inspired to think about how they might be able to create change in their community by Mrs. Martinez with this video.  They brainstormed the following and recorded their ideas: What is a leader? What does it mean to plan? Why is Student Council important to Ventana Vista? Students who want to participate in Student Council must return their commitment forms by Wednesday, September 14th. No late forms will be accepted as being responsible is one criteria for being on Student Council.
